Most states try their best to pride themselves on their transparency. These states try to make their public records laws as open as possible so that the public trusts that they are working within their best interests.

Alaska public records are fine. They contain most of the information that public records are supposed to contain. Where Alaska tends to struggle, however, is when it comes to government records. The purpose of the law was to allow people to have faith that the government is always working within their best interests, but Alaska public records law allows provisions for things like secret meetings and ethics committees - all examples of areas where the government is supposed to be as transparent as possible.
However, when it comes to what the average person needs access too, Alaska public records still have a vast amount of information. With few exceptions, any public records that you need that are available in other states are available in Alaska. The only issue is with those keeping tabs on the state government - an issue that should be left to the proper authorities.
